Following the Revolutionary War, A Yellow Fever epidemic swept through the city of Philadelphia leaving many orphans in its wake. The Catholic community mobilized to provide for these children and our commitment to children has been growing and evolving since that time. In 1912 child care services in the Archdiocese were reorganized under the Catholic Children's Bureau which was authorized as an adoption agency. We have completed over 11,000 adoptions since that time.
